Mine has three ingredients

You may have noticed A LOT of “talk” on the internet lately about home-made laundry detergent. Well, I noticed and got proactive. I mean, between baby detergent and household detergent I was spending upward of $30+ dollars a month.  Might sound like a lot but when you think about how much laundry you do…I do A LOT, the cost adds up. And then when you think about it you’re paying for mostly water and packaging. I was buying two name brands. This recipe cost me $10.40!!

So, here is the 3 ingredient recipe that I have stubbled upon again and again on various internet sites.  I really hope you try it, because it does get clothes clean. The fourth ingredient is up to you and that is the scent.

  1. 1 cup of Borax
  2. 1 cup of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
  3. 1 bar of soap, grated (I used Fels Naptha), but you can use any soap
  4. Essential oil, 3 drops (I didn’t add any because the Fels Naptha has a mild scent that I find pleasant)

Mix 1 cup Borax, 1 cup of Arm & Hammer washing soda, and 1 grated bar of soap, and 3 drops essential oil and store in an airtight container.

Small load = 1 tablespoon

Normal load = 2 tablespoon
Super/Heavy load = 3 tablespoons

Start washing your laundry! 🙂

  1. Thanks for the recipe instructions. I've always wanted to make home-made detergent. We're a family of 9, so there's loads of laundry washed daily.

    Hugs and Mocha,

  2. Hi Stesha!

  3. Going to “pin” this on Pinterest so I can remember to do this…someday:) I use to make my own baby wipes and have gotten lazy. This is a money-saver that I need to try!

  4. Wow, making your own baby wipes! I'd love to get that recipe if you could pass it along. I hate buying those things…money down the drain. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
