Dessert and Drink Pairings #CleverDessert #spon

Thanks to Duncan Hines for sponsoring my writing. There’s no limit to the baking possibilities, so grab your favorite Duncan Hines mix and Comstock or Wilderness fruit fillings and Bake On!

As most of you know by now I’m hosting my 4th annual Cookie Exchange this weekend. I’ll serve a light lunch and centerpiece dessert with lots and lots of cookies of course! I love this time of year because I LOVE baking and from November through December I am on a baking whirlwind.
For me, hosting a holiday gathering is a great time to unwind from the holiday stress and kick back and relax with friends and family.  With that said, I was lucky enough to have a trial run of a dessert I’ll be making for this festive gathering.
Choose your own cake and filling by visiting Duncan Hines. They have TONS of recipes and combinations to choose from so your options are endless. Duncan Hines has been around since 1908 so you know its a brand you can trust.

I chose to make the Dunkin Hines Black Forest Torte as the centerpiece dessert.

  1. 1 package Dunkin Hines Moist Deluxe Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
  2. 2 1/2 cups of whipping cream
  3. 2 1/2 tablespoons confectioners sugar
  4. 1 can (21 ounces) Comstock or Wilderness Cherry Pie Filling
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare, bake and cool cake according to package directions.
  3. Beat whipping cream in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Add powdered sugar gradually.
  4. To assemble, place on cake layer on serving plate. Spread two-thirds cherry pie filling on cake to within 1/2 inch of edge. Spread 1.5 cups whipped cream mixture over cherry pie filling. Top with second layer. Frost sides and top with remaining whipped cream mixture. Spread remaining cherry pie filling on top to within 1-inch of edge. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Easy Peasey!
This cake is SO moist!
So pretty and festive!
With this cake I thought it would be fun to pair my latest FAVORITE drink called a Dirty Shirley. I’m sure there may be other names out there for this drink, but so far thats the best I could come up with. I mean, we have all had a Shirly Temple right? This is red (in keeping with the holiday spirit) and is cherry flavored (to compliment the cake)!
  1. Ginger Ale (4-6 ounces)
  2. Grenadine (1 ounce)
  3. Cherry Vodka (2 ounces)
  4. Maraschino Cherry for garnish
  1. Pour all ingredients over ice in a tall glass. Stir, drink and ENJOY!

Remember to check out Duncan Hines’ website to find some great recipes for your holiday get-together! I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective.
