Summer Dresses? Maxi Dresses? What Are You Going to Choose?

With spring here and summer just around the corner, it’s time to start transitioning that closet from heavy and wooly to light and airy. I don’t know about you, but I love to wear dresses in the summer. It’s just such an easy way to look like you made an effort to look cute on a hot day–one simple piece of clothing to take you from day to night. And now that I am a mom, I appreciate the ease of a summer dress that much more. You can change the look of a dress by adding a cute scarf, necklace, cardigan, or jacket, too. That way, you still don’t have on tons of layers, and you are looking totally fashionable.
I’m pretty short at just 5’1″, but I really love the look of a maxi dress. When I find a piece that I really love and fits well, I don’t hesitate to have the hem tailored to fit my height. Even if I find a dress that costs less than say fifty dollars, I’ll get it altered. Typically the alterations don’t cost more than ten dollars, and I know it will look like it was made just for me.
Here are a few looks that I like for this summer. I like to buy at least a couple of new dresses each year to refresh my wardrobe. I mean, do dresses really ever go out of style?
Love the hem on this dress. Would work for me too since I’m petite.
Love a white maxi dress. This would be cute with a pair of flats and a denim jacket too.
So what will you be wearing this summer? Do you like the look and ease of a dress?  I think a dress works for pretty much any body type, too. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s go shopping!

If you like either of these dresses, you can order them here or connect with BooHoo on Facebook or Twitter.

  1. Im about 5 foot and look funny in dresses… I guess I should fork up the extra $10 to get them hemmed to look perfect on me. But now that I have a nice fresh mommy pooch I should stay clear of dresses… at least until I shake off another 20 or 30 pound!

  2. I LOVE dresses!!! what a great site!!! and super awesome prices!!!

  3. That;s part of the reason I learned to sew – to alter my own clothes! They look so much better.

  4. I'm also 5' tall but I tend to avoid dresses. The combination of height, short waist and having birthed 4 babies makes dresses difficult. BUT, I do love a cute knee length skirt, t shirt, and flip flops in the summer.

  5. I love wearing dresses too. I want to take all my old maternity dresses and have them tailored to normal dresses!

  6. I like the look of maxi dresses and bought one for our last trip to Jamaica. I feel like they kind of make me look pregnant though, so I tend to go for shorter styles.

  7. In the past few years, I have started wearing dresses more and more. Like you mentioned, they are so easy and comfortable. I just picked up a beautiful pink, wrap dress for spring – love it!

  8. I want to start wearing dresses again and probably the longer ones – they look so pretty
