I headed out to my local Walmart today with a couple of items in mind. I left at around 9am on April Fools Day (haha) for my toddler-free shopping experience. I only needed to buy food items, so my focus was on the grocery portion of the store. As always, I was nicely greeted by an employee at the front of the store. The grocery section wasn’t particularly crowded yet, so I grabbed my cart and headed to the freezers.
I was so excited to find TCBY Frozen Yogurt available in the ice cream section of the store. Do you remember TCBY stores? I have pretty fond memories of going to the local TCBY with friends after school. I’m pretty certain that when frozen yogurt made its debut, TCBY was the go-to place to satisfy your appetite for swirly goodness. You can imagine my excitement and nostalgia when I had the yummy treat in my hands. I couldn’t wait to get home so that I could put together a special weekend treat for my family. I wonder if my hubby would notice that I was making him a low-cal, TCBY frozen yogurt sundae rather than a traditional ice cream sundae? We shall see!
I bought several flavors in the quart size (Supreme Cookies and Cream, Classic Vanilla Bean, and English Toffee Crunch) along with a box of orange and vanilla fruit and yogurt bars. Unfortunately, my local Walmart did not have the pint size in stock on this particular day. No worries…quarts are bigger! I have noticed there are additional flavors available in the pint sizes like Chocolate Chocolate, Tropical Mango Peach, Cookie Dough, and Mint Chocolate Crunch. All sound very yummy. I will have to check back later at my Walmart to see if they have added those to their stock.
I knew I had some items at home I could use for toppings on my sweet treat, but I wanted to buy some fresh fruit to add, too. Over to the fruit section for some strawberries and raspberries.
I headed to the express checkout and only waited a couple of minutes for the one customer ahead of me. I just love express lanes, especially when they are for twenty items or less. I checked in on Foursquare at 9:19am and was out by 9:30am. Now that is a quick shopping experience for this mama who had to get back home to her hubby and sick daughter.
After a long day of dealing with a little one who has her first cold, I was looking forward to making hubby and me a sweet treat to enjoy together once she went to bed. This is what I came up with. Nothing over the top, just an old fashioned sundae of sweet cookies and cream and classic vanilla bean layered with crushed Oreos, raspberries, and strawberries. I think it looks pretty romantic, don’t you? Well, my TCBY frozen yogurt swap out was a success! Hubby and I enjoyed our yummy sundaes while snuggling on the couch and watching some T.V.
