We Found A New Place! New Yawk!

The past few weeks have been quite a whirlwind for my little family. First, we took a week-long trip to Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.  We weren’t even home for a full twenty-four hours before our house was struck with a nasty cold–sore throats, low grade fevers, and the typically coughing, sneezing, and runny nose blahs. During the midst of all that, we were online searching day and night for a new place to call home. We knew we didn’t have enough time to drive back and forth to New York every weekend looking for a house, so we decided to rent for the first year we are there. Since Iona is so close to NYC, housing costs more than a ton of 20s.  We want to live in an area that doesn’t give DH a super long commute and that is affordable with good schools and a safe neighborhood. {Oh, and we want to be a reasonable drive away from DH’s brother and family in New Jersey. They have twin boys who are just five weeks older than G. We don’t get to see them as often now, but living in NY will give us the opportunity to do so.}
So, back to our search. It wasn’t looking especially promising. We were hoping to find a whole house to rent so we wouldn’t have to deal with sharing any space with other tenants. Also, we hope to get another dog, and we enjoy having a yard and being able to hang out outside. Our search results would yield us a cool place in a not so cool area or vice versa.  Even better?  How about paying 3 Gs or more to rent a shoebox cottage.  Eh, not so much for this family.
The week we came back from our trip, DH stumbled upon a great listing on Craigslist of all places. A three story town house in a condo community, totally upgraded and updated, dogs allowed, three bedrooms, two and a half baths, two sets of sliding glass doors out to decks, a community pool and playground, all settled within the village of Brewster located in Putnam County, New York. And, its within our budget. Of course I immediately think SCAM since he found this listing on Craigslist.
DH emailed the contact listed and we anxiously awaited a reply. Within twenty four hours we had plans to visit this “perfect” place we might call our new home for the next year.
G was still sick on the Saturday we left for Brewster, so she stayed with her Grandma and Poppa. DH and I left around 8 AM and were scheduled to view the townhouse at 11 AM. Total trip time when your DH drives above the recommended speed limit is about two and a half hours. Not so bad right?
First impressions were great. Landlord-to-be seems awesome. He actually lived in this place with his own family for several years until just recently moving out to buy a single family home of his own. Landlord-to-be even drives us around town showing us markets, restaurants, parks, and shopping which also lead us all to his new home for a light lunch and signing of the lease! WOOT!  We didn’t get home until 6 PM, had to wolf down garbage food, and had to listen to baby give us hell for leaving her all day.  Well, she did like time with Grandma.
Yes, folks, we are locked in for one year at our new place. We are officially moving out on May 10th from our current abode.  To our soon-to-be former land-lord: you are a D#@& C&@^ S%^&.
I wish I had taken some pictures that day, but it was rainy and cold and DH and I still were feeling pretty S*IT^^Y. Pictures to come soon!
