A Love Letter to Rhode Island…

So I figured with our impending move to New York just seven short days from today, I would write a letter to my little beloved state of Rhode Island. Sniffle. I know New York is really close, and we can drive back any day we please, but it’s just not the same.
I was born here way back in 1979…
I’ve called Cranston my home for all of my life…
I was on a boat from the age of four months on…
I love being so close to the ocean…
I LOVE the beach and its just a half hour car ride away…
I love being so close to my friends and family…
I love that I can drive around this state in an hour or less…
I went to college here…go FRIARS!
I met my husband here…
I was married here…
G was born here…
There are 100s of yummy restaurants within a 20 mile range of where we live…
Dunkin Donuts is everywhere. Seriously, throw a rock and you’ll hit one in any direction…
We have Del’s Lemonade
There are Italian bakeries on every corner where I can buy fresh bread and dough…
I love Sundaes ice cream…
So, if you are a reading this and are a Rhode Islander, feel free to add anything that you like or love!

  1. I love the quaint little main streets/towns tucked throughout the state. (Wickford, East Greenwich, Wakefield.) I also love that you can have a conversation with a random person and almost always find out that there is someone in common who you both know.

    • megan i was going to say that!!! about talking to a random person and finding you are connected somehow. so true. lol

  2. Well, I am from Swansea, MA and I could literally walk to Warren, RI in 2 minutes from my house. I miss having a dunkin on every corner and I miss Dell's and the bike path too. I live in NC now so I miss being up there and cannot just drive it for a weekend like you will be able to. I used to work at Eskimo King in Swansea and we had a lot of RI customers. Have you ever been there?

  3. I love that I can be anywhere I need or want to be in 20 minutes. I love being close to so many great zoos, museums, parks, and hiking trails.

  4. housewifemama, I was just at Eskimo King a few weeks back! Love that place.

I love RI. I could have basically written the same letter, minus the hometown (Bristol) and the college (Go RHODY!). My favorite thing ever is the Bristol 4th of July parade. I am already looking forward to it this year!! 🙂

  5. You'll be back I'm sure!!! =) All Rhodys come back, right? Don't forget the Big Blue Bug and Iggys!

  6. love this post! 🙂 regarding just cranston, i love that i can pack the boys in the car and in less than 15 minutes i feel like i've left the city … even though i'm STILL in cranston … and i can drive the boys by the farms and then right down to the water. everything is so close. going to miss you!

  7. I love Rhode Island, and I'm not from here! Things I'd never heard of before I moved here are Donut Cakes, Pizza strips and coffee milk! It is a little gem, with amazing restaurants, great arts, and gorgeous beaches! I know you will be back to visit often! Best Wishes!

  8. I love clam cakes and the seafood you can get all around RI. Will miss having my weather spotter in RI on Twitter but now you can warn us what will be headed our way 🙂

  9. I miss Dunkin Donuts!

I got engaged in Newport, so Im a RI fan too:)
