So Today Was One of Those Days

This will be quick and painless for you, but my nerves are shot! We drove from New York to Rhode Island today dead smack in the middle of a heat wave. T.J.’s youngest brother is getting married this Saturday. The last brother in his family to be married off. {Trust me there will be more details after Saturday, this event is shaping up to be something to remember…juicy}.
Anyway, we left New York around 11AM {which is when we normally leave} and thought G would take her nice 1.5-2 hour snooze. Can you imagine where this is going? There was no nap, not even a glimmer of yawn.
T.J. was driving well over the speed limit which makes me nuts, but I’m not going to continue to argue with him over it after thirteen years together. We drove straight through without one stop and arrived here in about 2.5 hours. T.J. and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast so we arrived starving. We stopped in at one of our local spots to grab some take out. A late lunch.
We thought that we would set G up for her nap, and she would be on her way to sleepy time after getting to my parents house, our home away from home for the weekend. Well, as soon as she saw Grandma and Papa, her face lit up and she got a second wind.
Now that we knew it was going to be a no-nap kind of day, we thought it would be nice to spend some time out on the deck and let G relax with her water table. That lasted about 30 minutes before G cut the top of her finger off with a water gun. She didn’t make a sound which I thought was off for this kind of injury. I quickly picked her up, and I could see a flap of skin hanging off the top of her finger. Bleeding with the four adults frantic, and she is cool as a cucumber. This wasn’t one of those kind of injuries that would cause us to go to a doctor, but it was her first major injury beyond a bump or bruise.
We bandaged her up and she was good to go walking around with her Elmo bandaid pointing out her boo-boo.
Dinner came quickly and there was no bath time due to the wound. I feel like its best to let it dry up and scab before we reintroduce water. A sponge bath was the name of the game. Of course just to add the final bang to this whole amazing day, while I was putting on her night diaper, and she grabbed hold of the Burts Bees powder, turned the top, and shot powder into her eyes, mouth, and nose! So here she is a face full of powder while I’m changing her poopy diaper.
I guess this is one of those days when things happen in threes? I’m glad to go to bed soon although I don’t know how I will be able to sleep with my instincts on such high alert. Actually, she just woke up from a nightmare or something, because I just heard a bang and a screech upstairs…just checked…all clear.
So, how was your day? Have you had a day like this lately?
