If you like an occasional soda, or my favorite, flavored sparkling water, then you know how costly it can be to purchase these items in the store. Well, did you know you can make both of those items at home now in less than a minute?
SodaStream is the world’s largest manufacturer, distributer and marketer of Home Carbonation Systems and is an alternative to purchasing pre-packaged bottles and cans. This has many advantages, like convenience, sustainability, variety, space economy, personalization, family fun, and value for your money.
For the purpose of my review I was sent the SodaStream Fountain Jet & Stream Drink Maker in black/silver as well as an assortment of various syrups. Each SodaStream kit includes a kit includes one carbonator {good for making 60L of soda}, and one reusable BPA-free plastic bottle {each bottle lasts for three years} . This system requires no electricity or batteries, which makes it convenient and portable.
My hubby wanted to try out the cola syrup, so we got right to work. It’s amazing how really simple it is to do. First we attached the carbonator cylinder to the back of the machine. Next we filled the carbonating bottle with very cold water and screwed the bottle into the machine. One the bottle was attached we pressed the carbonating lever in short presses all the way down until we heard a loud buzz. The directions suggest that three loud buzzes provides average carbonation, but we found that we prefer at least 4. Lastly we unscrewed the bottle and added the cola soda mix flavor. YUM!
I will probably purchase another reusable bottle in the near future so hubby can have his soda and I can have my sparkling water. This is by far the biggest selling point for me {reusable BPA-free bottles}. Any little bit I can do to have less bottles fill the landfills is fantastic in my book. I remember my friends having these when I was very young! It's funny how things come round again – and now with an environmental twist. I don't drink much fizzy stuff but if I wanted more sparkling water I would definitely consider one.
