Tempt Your Senses & Your Tastebuds #TemptYourSenses #CBias

Don’t you love when a smell reminds you of something? Like a special memory or a particular event. For me the smell of something cooking or baking most always reminds me of a good time. Wether it be cookies baking in the oven or a home made sauce bubbling away on the stove top. Do you have a scent of something cooking that reminds you of a special memory?
Renuzit has taken those scents and developed a new line of room fresheners that leave my guest bedroom smelling like chocolate covered cherries. And, since my husbands office is also on the same floor of the guest bedroom he started craving chocolate. That is when I decided to bake up a little something with the same flavor. I was thinking a chocolate cake and cherry parfait. Yum!
I am still exploring where we moved to and I hadn’t been to our local Walmart yet so I decided to check it out. I just needed a few ingredients for the cake parfait and a couple of other items.
To be honest, this Walmart was kind of a disappointment. It was very disorganized and messy and a lot of the items I was shopping for were unavailable. Luckily I was able to snag the last box of Dunkin Hines Triple Chocolate Cake Mix. The other two ingredients I wanted to buy were cherry pie filling and heavy whipping cream which were both out of stock. And, since the next closest Walmart is over an hour away I had to improvise with some items I found in my pantry.  You can view the rest of my Walmart shopping trip in my Google+ album.
I found the Renuzit, but they did not have any of the new scents like chocolate covered cherries, creme brûlée or red velvet cake. Maybe these scents are just too new still.
Chocolate Cherry Cake Parfait
Ingredients:
  1. 1 box of Dunkin Hines Triple Chocolate Cake Mix
  2. 1/2 cup of Cherry Preserves
  3. Whipped Topping of your choice
Method:
  • Bake the cake recipe according to directions for 13×9″ cake size.
  • Cool the cake completely. I baked mine and even refrigerated it overnight.
  • Take a fork and poke the top of the cooled cake.
  • In a small saucepan, warm the 1/2 cup of cherry preserves over low heat until it breaks down into a syrup.
  • Pour the warm syrup over the cake so it can soak through.
  • Cut the cake into cubes.
  • In a serving dish alternated cubes of cake and whipped topping.
  • Enjoy!
