Happy Anniversary to Us! {With Tips}

I didn’t doubt that we would make it six years. Hell, we have been together for thirteen! But, it has taken work.
Over the past six years we have moved from Washington, D.C., back to Rhode Island, where we moved twice, and then to New York. And, we will have at least one more move next year into our permanent home. Before that we had moved three times while living in the D.C./Northern Virginia metro area.  I seriously wonder why I unpack any of our stuff…ever.
We had an amazing, fairytale wedding six years ago.  It was the most perfect Sunday in August 2006. No humidity and the temperature in Rhode Island didn’t even break 80.  We were married at St. Mark’s Church, Cranston and our reception was at The Castle Hill Inn, Newport.  Beautiful.
I figure I should share some of our tips for keeping a marriage fun and light and filled with lots of love {even if that love includes a bit of arguing once and a while}.
  1. Do NOT sleep in any bed smaller than a Queen size.
  2. Make sure when you make the bed that there are more sheets hanging over your side than your spouses. That way, if said spouse like to “steal” sheets in the night you will inevitably end up with some.
  3. Have your own space. A little place in your house where you can get some quiet me time. I am an only child so this is very important to my mental health.
  4. Know your role. Are you a morning person? A night owl? I am neither so figure that out. T.J. did and that makes him a lucky man.
  5. Choose a pet name that is suitable. T.J. calls me hun and I call him Moona, pronounced Moon-a. No idea where or how this came about, but when I say it he knows. So, if you are ever out and you hear someone calling for Moona, it’s me.
  6. One cook in the kitchen at a time.
  7. Here’s a spin on the saying, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”: Tasty meals make for tasty men.
