Keeping it Clean and Green With #HeinzVinegar

If you follow my blog then you know I like to keep it as natural and green as I can. If you are new here…well…now you know. 🙂 We cloth diaper, eat organic, recycle, and even make our own cleaning products.

It was just a couple of weeks ago I posted my first home-made green shower cleaner. One of the two ingredients is vinegar. At the time, I used a store brand vinegar because I didn’t know about the new Heinz Cleaning Vinegar.

Cleaning Vinegar is both safe for cooking and for cleaning. Its a cost-effective alternative to harsh cleaners and chemicals. If you figure most cleaning products cost $2.99 and up for a small spray bottle and Heinz Cleaning Vinegar is just $2.98 for an entire gallon! That is a lot of cleaning and a lot of bang for your buck. Aren’t we all looking to save money these days?

I went to my local Walmart to purchase the Heinz Cleaning Vinegar and a couple other things. I made a list and T.J., G, and I loaded into the car to make the 25 minute drive. {Nothing is close by where we live.} I was excited to find the vinegar, and we found the aisle where it should be located. But, all we found was a label on an empty shelf. You can imagine my disappointment. Luckily a very helpful employee happened to come by and we asked her when the vinegar would be in stock. She assured us that it would be in on Friday and to come back then. This was Wednesday, so that was just a couple of days. Since we had already made the trip we got the rest of the items on our list and headed home.

When Friday morning arrived you better believe that I called Walmart to check that the Heinz Cleaning Vinegar had come in with the delivery and it had. So, G and I made the trip over and bought the vinegar along with a few more necessities like beer for Daddy. The Patriots played Sunday and beer is always part of the equation along with chips and other snacks! Oh yea, and our Walmart sells beer. I just love the one-stop shopping. You can see all of my shopping trips in my Google+ album.

I use vinegar several ways around the house…good thing it comes by the gallon. 🙂

  • Salad dressings
  • Cleaning my cast iron skillets
  • Shower, tub, and tile
  • Washing the floors
  • Cleaning my coffee pot
Just look at this picture of my glass shower doors! Before and after cleaning with a vinegar mixture.
Before and After Shower

Cleaning with vinegar is not a new thing. T.J. told me that he remembers his Nanna’s house smelling of vinegar after she cleaned the floors. And that was some twenty plus years ago.  And, I’m sure she had been cleaning with vinegar for many many years before.

When you clean with vinegar, it also deodorizes the air. I know the smell can be overwhelming for some and my suggestion is to open the window while you clean or turn on a fan. The smell won’t linger that long and eventually you will just get an overwhelming scent of clean. The gallon jug even includes several tips on cleaning with vinegar.

You can find Heinz Cleaning Vinegar in the salad dressing aisle at your local Walmart!

Do you think you will give cleaning with vinegar a try?
