Maternity Fashion | Where is it?

Yea, last night while watching E! news they were of course talking about Kim Kardashian and Princess Kate’s maternity fashion. Since me, Kim, and Princess Kate seem to all be due around the same time I literally laughed out loud at the term maternity fashion while I sat on the couch, rocking L.L. Bean slippers, Victoria’s Secret sleep pants, a New England Patriots tee and one of my father-in-laws landscaping biz hoodies. How about that for maternity fashion. :)

Of course, while being interviewed, Kim K was dressed in some lacey number that was totally skin tight while she is 12 weeks in. Where is the bloat sister? God knows that Princess Kate’s wardrobe will probably be custom couture. I’m not jealous, I just want some decent, cute pieces to wear while not feeling frumpy.

When I was pregnant with G I got a few key pieces {jeans, capri’s, t’s} from A Pea in the Pod since they offer petite sizes. I didn’t buy much else other than a few tops here and there. I tried to make my wardrobe work and just added a few extras. Also, it was HOT as you know what so who really felt like wearing anything.

Here I am the second time around and I feel like I am missing out on some great maternity shops out there. Are they out there? I know GAP, Old Navy, Motherhood Maternity and Target seem to be what everyone suggests, but nothing is popping out at me. Maybe because this is my second pregnancy I just don’t have the same excitement shopping for maternity clothes as I did the first time? Hmmm…

So, where did you shop for your maternity fashion?

Here are a few things I’m shopping for today.

  1. Haha. Honestly, GAP sizes are the only reasonably priced somewhat cute clothes that actually fit little 5 foot me. I had to order jeans online since they don’t carry my small size in store. You are right though, there is nothing super cute out there. I’ve been rotating a few striped (I swear, they only sold striped shirts this fall/winter) shirts and jeans for months!

  2. Don’t forget my suggestions! Although you will need the pants hemmed. I’m dropping mine off today :)

  3. They don’t have a ton of maternity, but check out asos.com. I recently discovered this site and now I am addicted ;) But with my daughter, I was pretty much Gap and Target the whole way. LOFT also has maternity but I never really saw anything I liked. Good luck!

  4. I wish LOFT had maternity when I was preggers. Super cute!

  5. How did I miss you being preggers!?! Bad blog friend, sorry! I loved Pea in the Pod, adn just kept buying a little bit for each of the 3 pregnancies. Honestly, it’s very much about the season, so in winter nothing at all looks cute, and spring/summer dresses were adorable, go figure!

  6. I never found amazing maternity clothes. I would just buy larger sizes of regular clothes.

I KNOW WHERE IS THE BLOAT. Some people really do glow while pregnant.

I was showing at 8 weeks (I had twins) look at the bottom of my blog it will show you an 8 week picture of me. There was no question I was pregnant!

  7. I ended up just buying larger sizes in non-preggo clothes which only worked through my 2nd trimester. I never had the heart to drop the money on the nice expensive stuff so I opted for a lot of the Target line which always looked great.

  8. I love Anne Taylor for maternity! I also love Motherhood Maternity! And especially love the clothes are given to me to wear from friends for temporary use:)

  9. You are rocking the maternity trends! How cute is that grey jacket?! And the stripes – sweaters, blouses, long t’s, oh my! I have to say, you are lucky. I hardly had any super cute but affordable options when I was pregnant with my son 12 years ago. You GO!

  10. How did I miss your pregnancy announcement!?! Congrats! I shopped Shade.com this time around (as well as Gap and Old Navy) and have been pleased with their quality. Not the biggest selection, but what I did get, I really like. Do you know anyone that can lend you maternity clothes? I have a bunch from a friend this pregnancy and it’s fun to wear something I didn’t have to spend money on.

  11. I find things at Target and the Heidi klum and Jess Simpson collection at motherhood mostly this time around. I also do the sizing up in reg clothes for as long as possible. I have a ton of working maternity clothes from gap and pea in the pod from 1st preg but honestly I’m in tunics, leggings or jeggings now that Im at home with the kids. Good luck shopping and congrats!!!

  12. I did hear that LOFT has a nice maternity line, but don’t have personal experience there. (As I said on FB I mostly did Motherhood.) I got a few things at Kohls. Also, some upscale children’s consignment shops have maternity clothes also, don’t know if you would be interested in that. Good luck Mama! :)

  13. The only time I got decent clothes was the first pregnancy, it was a good thing I bought a lot because the second and third time I found nothing. The best thing I had were corduroys from Mimi Maternity (I don’t even know if they still exist) they were so comfortable I got them in every color they had.

  14. Actually, I have been shopping at Marshalls and looking for shift dresses like crazy. Those keep me feeling in style while allowing me to be comfortable…but I have the advantage of living in a warm weather city.
When it does get cold(er) here, I have a couple of pairs of leggings from Armani Exchange that are super cute and comfy. I pair them with almost everything I have in my closet.

  15. I bought all of my maternity clothing from Old Navy. My boys are 5 & 8 and I swear that maternity fashion has come a LONG way in just those 5 years since I had my little man. I bought 5 shirts, a few pairs of jeans and shorts – and just mixed and matched. I didn’t go hog wild spending money on clothing I was only going to wear for a few months.

  16. I wish I had you to dress me when I was pregnant

  17. I’ve had some good luck with Motherhood Maternity in Macy’s from Heidi Klum’s line and the Motherhood Maternity outlet. I have a bunch of Target shirts from Liz Lange but find they don’t wear as well second time around. Luckily I still had some stuff from my first pregnancy. Good luck filling your closet! :)

  18. Haha sounds like we have the same maternity uniform!! Comfy is the way to go – for real!
