Pepperoni Bread? Calzone? Stromboli? | Tasty Tuesday

Seems like everyone has a name for this type of rolled up pizza dough. In our house, growing, up, we have always called it calzone.

Today I had some fresh pizza dough, leftover pepperoni, and a bag of half full of a shredded Italian cheese blend. We had pizza last night, so I quickly whipped up a calzone for lunch. Our fridge is kind of bare since its time for that dreaded task of food shopping and I hadn’t bought too much thinking we might loose power during winter storm Nemo this past weekend.

This is super easy, takes little effort or time and is extremely delicious. I make all kinds of calzones…all kinds including breakfast!

So, here is the recipe!

Serves: 4-6
  • 1 pound fresh pizza dough {at room temperature}
  • ½ pound sliced pepperoni
  • 4 ounces of cheese {your choice}
  • drizzle of olive oil
  • dusting of flour
  1. Preheat your oven to 450F.
  2. Place a pizza stone or cookie sheet in the oven to heat.
  3. Dust your counter with flour.
  4. Carefully stretch and roll out your pizza dough to a 10-12 inch round.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the dough.
  6. Arrange the pepperoni all over the cheese covered dough.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining half of the cheese over the pepperoni.
  8. Fold the dough into itself by creating a one inch border around the inside mixture.
  9. Fold the dough into thirds so that all the filling is inside.
  10. Prick the top of the calzone with a fork so that the steam will escape.
  11. Place the calzone into the oven either on the cookie sheet or pizza stone and lightly drizzle the top with olive oil.
  12. Bake for about 20 minutes or until dough is crispy and golden brown.
