T.J. and I made a personal decision, several years back on our journey to a greener lifestyle, to discontinue our use of dryer sheets. T.J. did much research, as usual, and found that dryer sheets contain weird chemicals and artificial fragrances. So, we stopped buying them all together. Also, T.J. has highly sensitive skin so we are also very careful of everything we use for washing our clothes. I have made my own detergent and buy fragrance/dye free when I have to.
Fast forward a few years and when green products were coming onto the market we tried several “natural” dryer sheets. Eh…pretty disappointing and not to mention the prices were fairly high for something that you don’t get many uses out of and eventually toss into the garbage.
Back to using no dryer sheets again which means static cling up the yang yang and no so very soft, but clean clothes. Seriously annoying especially when living in New England means cold and wicked dry winter air. Nine times out of ten that means you are walking around with a miscellaneous sock on some part of your clothes that you are unaware of and electric hair!
I had seen a fellow blogger recommending Woolzies Dryer Balls and I even entered the giveaway they hosted as I was completely intrigued. I didn’t win, but I was recently given the opportunity to review my own set of Woolzies! 🙂
So what are Woolzies?
- Woolzies are pure handmade New Zealand wool dryer balls that soften your laundry naturally without any of the chemicals of conventional fabric softeners. Unlike the plastic dryer balls, they are PVC free and won’t fall apart or melt on you. Woolzies save time and energy by cutting down on drying time by an average of 25% per load. They also help reduce static and wrinkles.
- Woolzies are also hypo-allergenic and totally safe for people with wool sensitivities as they will not shed onto your laundry.
- Unlike even natural dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners, Woolzies last for 1,000 loads and are therefore extremely eco friendly.
I have been rolling these 6 Woolzies around and around in my dryer for about a week now. I’ve done diaper laundry, towels, sheets and our everyday clothes. I am completely over the moon with these dryer balls. They have really cut down on dryer time, especially on the cloth diapers which usually take forever.
They don’t make noise. My washer and dryer is in-between the master bedroom and G’s bedroom. I have run the dryer with the Woolzies while G has napped and there really is no difference in the sound of the dryer running a cycle.
I wonder how long it will take me to wash 1,000 loads? I do A LOT of laundry!
