A Big Day!
I’m writing this tonight. I will have so much more to tell after tomorrow.
Tomorrow is G’s very first day of preschool!
She turned three just a few days ago. She has one of those “late” birthdays so we had to wait until after her birthday to get her started. I know, there are preschool classes for two year olds, but last year we lived in New York and I just didn’t feel right starting her at a school I knew she wouldn’t stay at. I feel strongly that once she makes friends, she should be able to keep them especially at her young age. Plus, we have gone through so many changes in the past few years, moving twice and bringing home a new sibling I didn’t want another thing for her to have to deal with.
So, here we are, finally established in a community that we plan on staying in for many years. The time feels right for her to start school and spread her little wings. I’m lucky enough to have connected with a great group of ladies in my area that recommended this great little school. There are two teachers and eight students in the three year old program. It will meet twice a week for three hours. They have a wonderful little curriculum that covers quite a bit including music, math, science, and of course lots of arts and crafts!
We had a little visit last week and although G was pretty clingy with me, it didn’t take long before she was asking me if she could stay and play. The other children in the class were very welcoming and I just know that this is going to be a wonderful experience for all of us.
The best part? This place is so close to our house. Literally a 5 minute drive. This is nice since getting out of the house for a particular time can often be a bit of a challenge…wink wink.
So, the plan for tomorrow is for us to be ready for school which starts at 9am. TJ works tomorrow so it will be me and Val who drops her off. The director suggested I stay a little while in another room down the hall just in case G gets first day jitters. Okay, so maybe I will have some jitters too.
What’s a Mama to do with a little free time? Well, I still have my new sidekick, Val, but I think a lot of my “alone” time will be spent catching up on rest and TV. I can’t tell you the last time I watched a show, but my DVR is ready and waiting for me. 🙂
Do you have any tips for us? Like, for instance, what should I pack in her little backpack? A change of clothes? Snacks are provided so maybe a sippy cup of water?
Stay tuned! Of course there will be a first day photo!
I’m off to make G’s “first day” sign. 🙂
