The Rabbit Who Wants to Fall Asleep (Picture Book Giveaway)
Disclosure: I received a copy for my review. I work with Random House Kids on reviews. All opinions are mine alone.
Like most homes across the world, we struggle with getting our kids to sleep several nights a week. It seems as soon as the words *pajamas* or *bedtime* are spoken, my girls moods quickly change and they get their game faces on. I’m so spent by the end of the day I want nothing but a peaceful bedtime. But, the reality is, in fact the opposite.
We have a bedtime routine. After dinner is finished usually the girls have a bit more playtime or color, while I clean up from dinner. Then we all head upstairs for baths and pajamas, which is followed with a story and goodnight. Sounds easy enough, but as soon as we tuck them both in, they pop up like jack rabbits and start asking for a drink, or tell us they aren’t tired, or have to potty eleven more times, or just want to argue about getting into bed. Didn’t they get the memo? Its dark, and Mom and Dad are done for the day. Lights out! Go to sleep!
I was thrilled to find out about a book that might help us move things along. We read a story anyway so just maybe this one would do the trick?
Rather than read to them with the light on, we dimmed the lights, tucked them both into their beds, and my husband read the story as the directions explained. He has a really deep voice that many compliment him on and by nightfall its super low and could really make anyone narcoleptic.
I don’t know if it was the combination of all of the small changes, the tone of his voice, or the book, but after he completed the story and walked out of their room we didn’t hear a peep. I was jumping up and down and running to pour my night cap!
