Valentina Turns Four // A Mermaid Birthday
Valentina is turning four on Saturday.
We had a small party for her close girlfriends the weekend before Father’s Day. The weather was beautiful after so many days of rain.
I think her birth will always remain really vivid in my mind. We had just recently moved into this house. My OB in NY wanted me to get an early c-section against my will. My Mom and Mother-In-Law were staying with us because we needed them to watch Gabriella if I were to go into labor. I was certain it would happen in the middle of the night – and it did.
My water broke just a couple of hours after I went to sleep much like it did with Gabriella. Valentina was due date was June 18th, but she came late on June 24th. So, the moms were here from the 18th on wondering with me if today would be the day.
I remember going into the bathroom thinking, yep, here we go, and when I opened the door to come out T.J. was sitting up in bed asking me if it was time to go. LOL! That was a little after midnight on the 24th. Good thing we got those couple hours sleep because she wasn’t born until a little after 5pm! It was a long labor but then a quick few pushes before she was out and screaming.
Valentina is my tiny little lady. She is petite much like myself but full of hot Sicilian blood. She is very certain of herself, determined, social, motivated, and the biggest snuggler. She has the biggest and brightest smile and I just love her to bits. I knew I would have a daughter named Valentina long before we thought about growing our family.
I had asked her what she wanted to do for her birthday this year. Last year we went to NYC and had lunch at American Girl. It was her first trip into the city and a fun day for just the five of us and her godmother. The year before her birthday slipped through the cracks and we had a cake with family in New Jersey. And, her first birthday was celebrated here at home with close family and friends.
She told me this year she wanted a girls only party and a mermaid cake. OK then! I can do that! It is nice to have a kid with a late Spring birthday let me tell ya. We could host this in our yard, pray for good weather, and the whole thing could be manageable. We served pizza, goldfish, cake and lemonade. I feel like four year old girls are very easy to please. Give them makeup “face paint”, glitter glue and gems and jewels to decorate with, glitter crowns, and cake and they are the happiest. As a party favor I gave each girl their own plush mermaid doll. Again – jumping for joy happy!
I added a few surprised for Val like face-painting and an small activity (the girls painted and decorated their own wooden treasure chests). It was a really fun day and she was really excited to have her first “friend” birthday party.
Valentina turns four on Saturday and we have a fun weekend planned for just the five of us! Can’t wait to celebrate my girl!
