Accent Wall with Urban Walls

Ya know we have been living in this house four just four years now and I am STILL decorating and getting the rooms together. I was SUPER pregnant with Valentina when we moved in and had her two weeks later. And, I was pregnant with Anthony when she was 7 months! Life has been hectic and styling my house was low on the list.
I’ve been going full steam ahead the past year. Anthony is nearly three and I just feel that this season of our lives as a family of 5 gives me more time to take a step back, figure out what I want the rooms to look like and make it happen.
Our master bedroom has seen a TON of change since we moved in. First thing we did was paint. We painted the walls a light grey and painted all the trim white. Next up was the bed. It was a queen size with a massive cherry wood bed frame including a headboard and footboard. We also had a crib at the foot of the bed for what seemed like forever. I liked having the babies in our room for overnight nursing sessions. Once the kids were out of the crib in our room and into their own rooms, the queen bed went away and we upgraded to a king. What. A. Difference. Plenty of room to spread out, and have stragglers during the night shift!
It took a while for me to settle on a headboard. M-O-N-T-H-S. I thought I would build one because of all the DIY on Pinterest, but that was a pipe dream. Not in the cards for me. I keep searching. I wanted WHITE or IVORY but I didn’t want to spend $1000 on a king size headboard. I finally stumbled upon THIS ONE on AMAZON of all places. It was less than $300 and solid wood frame! What also made this headboard perfect for our bed was that it is adjustable. Our mattress and boxspring make our bed super high and this headboard accommodates the height.
Found an awesome quilt at T.J. Maxx, found a great duvet there too. The giant ruffle pillow and Mrs. & Mrs. pillow also T.J. Maxx finds. Added two glass and gold/brass side tables I found on clearance at TARGET (last year)! $40/each! I am on the search for lamps (currently using one random from IKEA), but now I’m thinking hanging wall lights or overhead recessed lighting above each side of the bed?
Super SOFT ivory blanket from NORDSTROM. Grabbed it during the big sale for like $25! And, the leather bench at the foot of the bed is from HOMEGOODS because they have the best accent furniture pieces. Right? Super long and ruffled bedskirt is from Overstock. Curtains from IKEA. Roman shades from POTTERY BARN. White shag rug at the foot of the bed is from RUGS USA. I need to get a much bigger one – coming soon!
During all this I’ve been staring at the giant wall behind the bed wondering what kind of artwork?? My husband isn’t a fan of things hanging on the wall over his head while he sleeps so it has stayed bare. I thought about wall paper but that is so permeant and such an ordeal to hang.
I ordered some URBANWALLS vinyl decals last week because a freakin lightbulb went off in my head. I had a giant vinyl decal hanging over Valentina’s crib in her nursery. A large letter V with her name running through it. It was lavender and white. I loved it.
I worked on getting the decals up behind the bed Saturday afternoon. It didn’t take that much time, but I did take my time. Does that make sense? I washed the wall down with a rag first, let it dry and then got to hanging. This is a pretty big wall, so I purchased two sets of decals. They sent me 11 in all. I ordered gold to keep with the grey, white, and gold colors of the room. I love how this has totally transformed the space! If I get sick of this look, the decals come right off. No fuss, no mess.
I am ADDICTED and have more decals ready to go for the girls room! What do you think? Is this something you would try in your home to update a space? Use coupon code: IHEARTDECALS to save 20% off your purchase.
