Stay Sharp with Misen Knives
I remember buying my first knife set. When T.J. and I started accumulating home goods for our first apartment in Arlington Virginia we took a lot of time looking at, holding, and debating everything. We looked at several knife sets and ended up buying a pretty expensive set that self-stored in a butcher block slab. It came with all the knives that we needed, a knife sharpener and a pair of kitchen shears!
We both enjoyed cooking then and knew the knife set was an investment that we would have for years to come. We still have it NOW! It has been a good fifteen years. I still spend a ton of time in the kitchen prepping meal after meal for our family of five.
Let me tell you that if takes maintenance to keep knives looking good, staying sharp, and holding up cut after cut. We always hand wash our knives, dry immediately and return them to their block. Keeping them sharp requires a bit more effort. Occasionally we have taken them in for sharpening, but day to day we use a knife sharpener. We’ve tried several sharpeners and you have to be careful to know the right technique or else you will dull the knife rather than keep it sharp. Also best to keep your knives stored individually or covered to avoid dulling.
In the past year – our pairing knife went missing. We figure it ended up in the trash at some point when one of us was cleaning up after a meal. We used that pairing knife a TON and have yet to replace it.
When MISEN recently sent over a new pairing knife and Chef’s knife I was ridiculously excited. Funny how the excitement over different things change once you are a homeowner/parent/ADULT!
This MISEN knife set is just beautiful! Very different the set we purchased long ago. Modern and lightweight, comfortable in the hand and most of all sharp! There is something to be said about having a quality set of kitchen knives. A set that doesn’t break the bank, is made of quality material and gets the job done.
The Chef’s Knife is designed to be held with the “pinch” grip preferred by most chefs. It is very important to have a correct grip on a knife like this ensuring you are keeping yourself safe (better control) and getting the most precise and easy cut. Made from premium Japanese steel, and hand-polished to a razor sharp finish, the Chef knife keeps a razor sharp edge cut after cut.
The Paring Knife is small and mighty. The most versatile knife in your collection. If there are only two knives you need in the kitchen it is this one and the Chef’s knife. This is the perfect knife for peeling and corning, mincing and trimming. I use this knife for just about everything.
You can purchase these knives separately or as a set. The MISEN ESSENTIALS SET makes a beautiful gift for any “chef” and comes in three color options, blue, grey or black. Purchase together for $95 or separately for $65 and $30. A pair of great knives can really be a game changer in the kitchen. Cutting down on prep time and making cooking more enjoyable!
