LOL Surprise Dolls – My Girls are Obsessed
I think it was over the summer when we were at Target one day. My oldest, six at the time, told me she had a friend who had an LOL doll. I could vaguely remember her talking about the doll before school ended but it was something she spoke about OFTEN. She wanted one. I had never even seen this doll and never pursued trying to find one.
That day at Target as we browsed the toy section. Doesn’t every Mom do that when they take the whole gang for a Target shopping trip? Anyway, the kids are walking up and down the aisles while I see what I put in my cart and Gabriella shouts, “MOMMY MOMMY I FOUND AN LOL DOLL!” I look in her hand and she is holding thing palm-sized ball. I see no doll, but I see the packaging says LOL Doll. I bought it. It was maybe $6.99. The other kids each picked out a toy and we made our way home.
Since our Target is about 20-25 minutes from our house she had a decent amount of time to start unwrapping this ball. Bascially it is like a surprise egg. There are layers of packaging each containing THE TINIEST pieces of doll accessories until you finally get to the doll. Everything about this is tiny! Tiny shoes, tiny clothes, a tiny baby bottle, and a tiny doll.
Gabriella isn’t the kid who gets wrapped up in a toy. She is more about creating art, reading, drawing, coloring, but has never had ONE TOY that she is SO ALL ABOUT. This toy became that thing to her. She carried it everywhere all summer. I was pretty stunned.
On returning trips to Target I would try to find another but there was nothing to be found. Once a found a LOL Doll bath fizz bomb and bought it because it had a tiny doll piece inside. I thought that would be fun for bath time.
I found a few on eBay because now Val was into this “surprise egg” LOL Surprise Doll. They took a solid month to get here direct from China, and I paid $3.99! The girls checked the mailbox daily waiting for their new surprise to arrive.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago before Halloween when the toy catalogs start filling the mailbox and there are all the LOL Surprise Dolls filling pages. They show a LOL BIG SURPRISE LIMITED EDITION toy that is sure to be a HOT gift for the holidays. Gabriella NEEDS THIS! It has over 50 surprises inside. I figured I’d grab it for her birthday.
GUYS! This LOL BIG SURPRISE is nowhere to be found! They were sold out in Connecticut as soon as I searched all the major retailers and people were already reselling them on the Facebook tag sale sites for double the price. What the actual Hell!?
I really wanted this for her. She really has a great time playing with these dolls! So, I started calling friends and family who live out of state. Guess what! Found one in a Walmart in Rhode Island! Score! Sent my Dad in as soon as the store opened for mission impossible. He went to the counter because there was nothing on the toy shelves. They had to go into the back where the store had just gotten a delivery! He GOT ONE!
Why did I have such a sigh of relief!? Is that was it was like for my parents when I wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll?! I’m pretty certain my Dad drove up to New Hampshire for one of those when they were HOT.
When Gabriella opened that box during her birthday party last Sunday she was SHOCKED – HAPPY – OVER THE MOON – and that was so worth it. She has played with it every day since and I have to admit it was pretty cool watching her unwrap so many things. I think it took a good hour!
I’ll be adding to her collection if I can find more LOL Surprise Dolls before Santa needs to fill the Christmas stockings.
So, are your kids into these toys too? Do they like these surprise egg toys as much as mine?
