I like to bring some new books in over the holidays. I look for books that will hopefully interest all my kids. I look for books that are durable, have beautiful images or drawings, and that will keep them interest. At seven, four, and three years old it can sometimes be a challenge to find what could work for all.
I like to wrap twelve books for the twelve days leading up to Christmas Day. I saw this idea on Pinterest and it is a fun way to add to our library, and get the kids excited for the holiday! I like to mix up the books. I buy some that are seasonal and keep the others just random picks. Our resident Elf, Ruby, likes to leave a little note with the wrapped book. The kids really look forward to finding where Ruby is hiding and what new book she brought with her from the North Pole.
National Geographic Kids has some really beautiful books. I’m not sure if you have any in your collection, yet, but they are just what you would expect from this iconic brand of news-media. Hey, Baby!: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories is a beautiful hard cover book that I can’t wait to share with the kids. This is the perfect book for all three ages.
Hey, Baby features beautiful photographs, stories, and poems, plus factual information about animals and nature. The book is organized by habitat. Each section opens with a poem and ends with a precious photo gallery of “more itty bitty babies” called a Tot Lot. In between are profiles and pictures of each animal, along with special stories of unusual animal frienships, animal rescue, and global folktales.
Hey, Baby! introduces your kids to the cutest, cuddliest, and cleverest baby animals of land, air, and sea—each with its own extraordinary life story. From the teensiest turtle hatchling to the biggest baby whales, readers will ooh and aah over all the sweet wee ones. Featuring stunning color photographs, fact-filled profiles, whimsical poems, and more, this book will be a favorite for young readers. While enjoying the lyrical beauty of Hey, Baby!, families will learn about earth’s different biomes and how animals adapt to each. They will also learn about the cultures around the world that gave rise to the varied animal folktales included in the book.
Hey, Baby!: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery is available to purchase wherever books are sold, including traditional bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million, as well as local independent stores, and mass merchants like Target, Costco, Walmart, and Amazon.com.
Purchases of National Geographic Kids books supports the exploration, research, and conservation efforts of the National Geographic Society. This gorgeous, hardcover book is a great value ($24.99) and the perfect keepsake gift for families, new parents, and moms-to-be.
