Nobody Likes Losing Stuff – Tile It!
I don’t like to think I am forgetful. I like to feel like I can do it all, remember all the things, be the finder of everyone else’s lost stuff. I think most days I am managing that expectation around 80%.
But, that other 20% … it is out of control! With three kids to manage about 20% of everything else slips through the cracks. That seems like a decent ratio. But, that 20% most always seems to be THE MOST CRITICAL THING that sets the tone for our day.
For instance. Last Friday was spirit day at my daughter’s elementary school. We had purchased spirit wear when she was in kindergarten and I had bought it oversized with the hopes we could get some years of use. This would be good thinking right? Especially since her two other siblings would be joining her in the school and we could pass the spirit wear on to them.
Well, that all blew up in my face last week when we COULD NOT find her spirit wear zip up sweatshirt. Like, no where to be found. I keep a pretty good handle on my kids clothes so I thought it was so odd. We always look in my van when something it “LOST” because it seems everything goes in there at some point to die. Well, it wasn’t there. My daughter is panicked – I am totally stumped and then she turns to me and says, “I think I left it at school one day when I was in Kindergarten.” SAY WHAT!
Kindergarten ended before summer began and here it is NOVEMBER. Lets call that a loss. Ugh.
I feel like it is my kids things that go into the unknown category the most. I mean, how can they be responsible for their stuff at such young ages? I try and try each day to remind them to pick up this and put that away and take care of your things, but I guess over TIME that will come. I hope.
I don’t ever lose my keys. Simply because my car is keyless so as long as I have my backpack with me we are going places. I did lose a rental car key just last year though. Dear Lord that was a horrible day. I had a rental from the dealership while my van had work. Again, the car was keyless, but it was just a fob on a ring with nothing else. It was winter and cold and raining and I went to bring Valentina to school on a Thursday morning and COULD NOT FIND THE FOB. We also had no spare because it was just a rental and T.J. was away at a conference in Atlanta. I did the normal thing, checked all my coat pockets, checked the mud room floor, my purse, even the inside of some boots and shoes. My Dad was here too so he was helping me look. It came to a point where we just were not going to make it to school so I gave up on that idea. I continued to search around outside maybe it dropped from my pocket. I did this four HOURS. We have a HUGE yard and the leaves were all over the place making it difficult to see AND it was raining. I called my insurance and had them send someone out to break in to the SUV thinking maybe I locked it in the car? I didn’t . That is the thing about keyless entry with Toyota. You cannot lock your keys inside but I was desperate. I called the dealership and told them I needed another key asap and they sent someone over. They also told me if I didn’t find it I would be charged $400! TJ wouldn’t be home for days and there was no other transportation for me as his car was parked at the airport! I was so upset guys. I was mad, sad, all the emotions.
I FOUND IT. The next day. After all the insanity I found the fob had slipped way down into the pocket of a jacket. I must have been so out of it searching I just overlooked it.
If I had the TILE Mate on that fob I could have located it in seconds. With TILE you can easily hook, stick, or slide it onto or into anything you don’t want to lose.
You know what is most important to two of my kids? Especially my second born, Valentina? Her “flower baby” lovie. She has never slept without thing bear. She is VERY DEPENDENT on it for comfort and I am always fearful it will go missing. I had ordered a spare on eBay a few years ago. But, we are already using the spare. This is a bear that was sold at Macy’s and is no longer available. I TRY to get her to leave it at home, but when we drive long distances or have overnights the bear comes along too. Guess what?! Now it has a TILE inside of it, because I am tracking that thing like the CIA tracks a series killer. No way will it go missing because I just don’t know what would happen.
MOMS – if you have a child with a lovie, you can relate! Stress no more! BUY A TILE, download the app to your phone and never stress about the loss of something again.
