Our Labor Day Traditions
This has been the second Labor Day we celebrated in our new home, new town. We are fortunate to live in an amazing community that really puts family as a high priority and provides tons of wonderful events just about every weekend.
This past Monday was our second time attending the annual Newtown Labor Day Parade. This marked the 53rd year of the parade. It’s one of the biggest events of the year drawing crowds of over 1,000 people. Locals take this event very seriously and those folks lucky enough to live on the parade route set up their chairs and mark their territory the night before.
The parade is almost an all day event beginning at 10am. We like to arrive and park around 9/9:30am before the road closure start and the parking gets totally insane. In addition to all the typical parade participants there are also local vendors set up selling food, crafts and more. G’s favorite part, the free balloons! We always end up with a couple, but then leave with none. Balloons are like babies, they don’t last.
We had a blast! It was HOT and humid but we were able to find a nice shady spot under a tree. Last year it was equally as hot so I guess that is part of the annual tradition! Val even napped, much like she did last year, through all the noise, heat and excitement!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!
