A Day at the Beardsley Zoo
After living in Connecticut for two years now, we finally took our first trip to the local zoo. The Beardsley Zoo is just a quick fifteen minute drive from our house.
I had heard so many good things about it and had been wanting to take the girls for awhile. Val is at the perfect age for a zoo trip now that she is two and up for walking and exploring a bit on her own and G, at 4.5 wants to learn everything about anything.
We arrived at 9am right when the zoo opened and the summer weather was still cool. For a family of 5, it made more sense for us to choose the annual membership rather than paying an admission each time we visit. I imagine now that we are members, we will visit at least once a week. I was excited to learn that our membership to the Beardsley Zoo gives us a 50% off discount to our other favorite zoo, Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island along with many other perks.
The Beardsley Zoo is very well maintained and clean. There were several exhibits under a bit of construction the day we visited, but I expected as much as they are trying to maintain the zoo and keep the animals and visitors comfortable. It was nice to see that Val, as tiny as she is, could easily see the animals as well as anyone else. Stroller access to the exhibits is great, and I push a double. The only exhibit we couldn’t bring a stroller in was the rainforest, but there is a designated area for stroller parking right outside.
We stayed about three hours, leaving around lunchtime. There is a food court area where you can buy lunch and tons of picnic tables and other areas throughout the park to eat if you pack your own.
With over 300 animals to see, lunch at the Peacock Cafe, lunch al fresco in the Picnic Grove, or a ride on the Carousel, there is something for everyone to see, do and enjoy! We had a really great zoo day and I can’t wait to head back over this week!
