Nautical Curtain Tie Back // DIY
Anthony is getting close to 11 months old, but that doesn’t mean his room is totally complete. There are finishing touches to be completed including adding curtain ties to his curtains. He has these very heavy blackout curtains from Pottery Barn kids, with white roman shades hung underneath. I love the all white look, especially with the navy/white/silver/baby blue accents throughout the room.
One thing that has been bugging me is not having curtain ties. I’ve been carefully tucking the curtains behind the window ledge for months, sometimes it works, most times it doesn’t. It never looked finished and every time I browsed for curtain hooks or curtain ties I just never found anything I liked. I wanted to keep it simple.
While on a errand run to Home Depot, I decided to walk up and down all the aisles to see if there was something I could use to make a curtain tie back. Since the nautical look includes lots of moving and working parts and pieces found on a boat I hit the jackpot while looking in the mailbox/close-line aisle.
I found some rope! I could easily use rope to wrap around the curtain with a simple hook to keep it held back to the window. I keep looking and next to the rope were swivel eye hooks. Done! I couldn’t wait to get home and get this going.
Materials:
- 2 swivel eye hooks $2.37
- 2 rings {found next to the hooks} 89 cents
- 1/8″ cord {found next to hooks} Have a Home Depot associate cut the cord for you or buy the prepackaged amount. $3.92
- Scissors
Directions:
- Wrap the cord around your drapes/curtains to get a sense of how much you will need. You will want to wrap it around using a doubled amount not a single piece. So, double it up and then wrap it around.
- Cut the length to size. Best to tape around the cord before you cut so it won’t fray.
- With the curd doubled, pull it through one end of the swivel hook and make a loop, feed the cord through the loop and do the same with the other end making a loop through the ring.
- Tie a simple knot, doesn’t matter how fancy, remember this is nautical so a knot makes sense!
- Add your completed curtain tie to your curtain! {I attached simple white eye hooks behind the curtain to hang the curtain tie on when its not in use and to keep the curtain to the window when the tie is on.}
I LOVE IT!
It took me 5 minutes to assemble and cost about $6 for two! You can’t beat that!
