What to Read in 2018
One of my goals for this year is to read MORE. Like read more than recipes, kids books, and magazines.
I use to whip through books. When Gabriella was first born my brother in law gifted me a kindle. I didn’t have a smartphone back in 2010. T.J. and I didn’t even have cable TV. We were on a Netflix DVD rotation. We were on a strict budget as T.J. finished up his PhD work. A one car family and one income. Good grief! Passing the time with a nursing newborn day and night wasn’t always easy. The kindle was my FAVORITE technology at the time. I read everything I could download from Amazon. At the time we did have PRIME because it was FREE to new moms and diapers were a must.
This was only SEVEN years ago. A lot has changed including my reading time. Like I said, now I read kids books, an occasional magazine and recipes. I still have my kindle – it is *vintage*, but works just fine!
This year I want to read adult books! Get your mind out of the gutter! Ok? Not THOSE books, but books that are possibly on the best seller list. I did read Girl on the Train last year. Was an awesome read. Didn’t see the movie, yet.
I’ve thought of joining the local book club here. Maybe if I was committed to a group it would keep me accountable and motivated to read?
During the day I just don’t make time/have time for a book. I am shuffling around kids, running errands, dealing with the never-ending laundry, waiting for the bus, cooking meals. Ya know all that day to day grind. And, by the end of the day I only can think about collapsing into my bed and watching HGTV or BRAVO until I pass out. The weekends are reserved for Netflix because school nights I need to be in bed at a certain time to function the next day.
I know that if I want to do something I will make the time to do it. So how badly do I want to read? There is no cost either! I can easily take books out of the local library. I go at least twice a month with the kids and they take out dozens of books. I’m already there. And, AMAZON PRIME members can read books, magazine, and audiobooks for free.
Are you reading? Do you make time to read? Want to read something with me? Maybe a book club would be good for me because then I could talk to others about what we’ve read? That seems like fun. Are you in a book club?
Here are the top 10 books of 2017 – have you read any of them? Thoughts?
What are some GOOD books that would make me want to keep reading? If you have read something recently or are reading something now that you LOVE please share. I’m not into science fiction. Not a romance novel kinda gal, although I pretty much have read every Nicholas Spark book. I never got past the first Harry Potter. I know, but it just wasn’t my thing. My seven year old is totally into HP. I like to keep my reading kind of light if that makes sense.
