Back to School Tummy Troubles?

I think we are just ten days into the school year here. We haven’t had a full week (five days) just yet due to holidays which leaves us yet to fall into a routine. My oldest who is in second grade this year has a bit of a sniffle and a cough. I’m chalking it up to the horrible weather we’ve had here with no end in sight. Rain and more rain combined with hot temperatures that are totally unseasonable and then cooler temperatures all combined with never ending humidity. We still have the air conditioning on in our house and there is no way I’ll turn it off anytime soon by the looks of the extended forecast.
We live in a super tree dense area much like most of the rest of Connecticut and our house backs up to woods. With the weather the way its been the mold count is high up there. You know what else is high? The sick score! Cold and flu is already on the record in this town along with hand foot and mouth in some of the preschools including Anthony’s. I love that my kids are back to school, but my anxiety is high knowing that at a moments notice we could all go down with symptoms.
I pack my kids lunches daily and they usually can pick one day a week that they buy hot lunch. Once they leave the house in the morning after breakfast the rest of the day is pretty much up to them about how they spend their mealtime. We don’t have empty lunchboxes every day coming home while other days they eat everything and raid my pantry on return.
I give them all probiotics and vitamins trying to combat the inevitable. But, sometimes it isn’t enough to deter these superbugs that lurk in the school. When the kids don’t eat right or eat on an irregular schedule their tummies get hit hard. Sometimes its that they can’t stop running to the bathroom and other times its that they can’t go at all.
My medicine cabinet is stocked and ready to go for all their symptoms. I take a quick inventory before school is in session and make sure we have everything we need. One of the items I like to keep on hand is Pedia-Lax® Chewable Tablets. They are a newer addition to my medicine cabinet but you just never know when someone might have eaten 100 too many Goldfish crackers and is having potty trouble.
Pedia-Lax® Chewable Tablets are formulated for kids ages 2-11, come in a tasty watermelon flavor and provide quick relief (within 30 minutes) and last up to 6 hours. They offer a gentle relief without the painful cramping sometimes associated with laxatives. Has your child struggled with constipation? I know first hand it can be brutal. I mean, I did birth these three little ones of mine and pregnancy can be so “wonderful” in every way. I don’t want them to feel that uncomfortable pain of not being able to go regularly.
Sixty-five percent of parents (of children aged 2 – 11) admit to treating their children’s constipation with an adult laxative, but there have been reports of sides effects in children, like behavioral and speech issues, resulting from one of the main ingredients in adult laxatives. Therefore, pediatric specialist, Dr. Nina Shapiro, urges parents to choose treatment options that are specifically made for children, like Pedia-Lax®.
Pedia-Lax® is the only pediatric brand offering a full line of laxative products that are fast, safe and specifically made just for kids to help support digestive health and ease constipation. Pedia-Lax® products are available in a variety of forms to meet a child’s specific needs.
The directions for use are children 6 to under 12 years – 3-6 tablets with a maximum does per day (24 hours) of 6 tablets.
