My Sunday Night Experience with PhysicianOne Urgent Care

I think it was this time of year just last year when my oldest had a little incident with her ankle on a Sunday night.
We have a family room aka playroom off our kitchen in the lower level of the house. There is a couch, a TV, and a bazillion toys. I usually don’t give two thoughts about what the kids are doing when they are in that room because I know its safe.
Well, my kids like to get wild (they are kids) especially as the afternoon turns to evening. Something about that time of day just turns them upside down. Kind of like dogs and cats that get stir crazy and start to zoom around. You know? The weather on this Sunday was rainy and cold so I couldn’t let them play outside as I like to do with them before dinner.
So, the kids got to pillow fights. Ya know, good old fashioned fun. Well, I usually let things go until I hear someone crying or things are just getting too out of hand. I am, after all in the kitchen just at the top of the stairs to this room. I can hear EVERYTHING.
Well, things turned south at one point and fingers were being pointed to who did what to who and my ankle hurts. I went downstairs to see what was going on as the laughter had turned to tears and anger. My oldest, Gabriella, had slipped off the arm of the couch and onto Anthony’s big red firetruck. She must have landed on her ankle the wrong way and you could see it start to swell. It didn’t appear broken, but we didn’t want to just wait it out overnight.
She was hysterical and T.J. and I laid her out on the couch with an ice pack while we thought out our options. I put my hands to my face and was thinking about all the things… The pediatrician has on-call hours for the weekend, but no x-ray, and the ER will be brutal because it always is. It is Sunday night at dinner time! I was mid-way through cooking dinner. One of us would have to go and one of us would have to stay with the other two kids. We remembered the PhysicianOne Urgent Care the town over and only a 15 minute drive and open 365 days per year, including Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. If you are concerned about whether or not they you can be treated at a PhysicianOne Urgent Care center, call 855.349.2828.
We are still fairly new here to Connecticut. We’ve been here just five years now and still weren’t familiar with all the services in and around our town. I usually like to talk to people and get a sense of what the recommend before I try it for myself or the family. But, this was a small emergency so we figured we’d take our chances and check out the services. PhysicianOne Urgent Care centers are the best alternative to the Emergency Room for non-life threatening injuries and illnesses for all ages. If you have been to an ER you know how long the wait is while in an uncomfortable setting.
T.J. took Gabriella in the car down to PhysicianOne Urgent Care so we could have her ankle checked and see what the course of action was for healing. There was little wait time. I think this was because it was Sunday evening. I think he said they only waited the ten minutes it took him to complete the patient forms. PhysicianOne Urgent Care offers X-rays along with a wide variety of services with no appointment necessary and almost all insurances are accepted.
The provider who saw Gabriella was patient and kind and set her at ease prior to her X-ray. She carefully examined Gabriella’s ankle and decided a quick X-ray could better determine the treatment. No break and no fracture – most likely a bad sprain. She gave her a small boot to wear to keep her ankle strong and straight while it healed and we could manage the pain with over the counter medicine. Lots of rest and keeping the ankle elevated too when she could.
T.J. was very please with the overall experience and they were home within an hour just in time for us to all eat Sunday dinner together. There is no way that would have happened if he had driven her to the ER. PhysicianOne Urgent Care was a great alternative to the ER for us this time. I’m thankful we took our chances and tried their services because it was totally worth it. I wouldn’t hesitate going there again if need be.
