Happy New Year and Whole 30 January
Happy New Year!
It was nice to take a step away from the computer for a bit while the Christmas holiday rolled through. Anthony started his winter break from preschool a week earlier than his sisters. Was nice to have him home more to “help” me. We had a few colds run through the house too which kept Valentina out of school for two days. I waited until the very last minute to shop for gifts. The Wednesday before Christmas I went on a crazy shopping blitz alone. I have decided I truly do not like the mall. If I never have to go back there it is fine by me.
The entire month of December was a total whirlwind. Now, here we are January 2019!
Anthony’s preschool Christmas party. This is also the last preschool Christmas party for us as we move up and on to all three kids in elementary school this upcoming September. Whoa!
If you live in or around Fairfield County you MUST check out the light display at this home. This is the second year we made the short drive over and I don’t think I’ll ever really fully see each and every light there are just so many! It is all really beautifully done. Wonderland at Roseville is a private home that decorates like nothing I’ve ever seen!
This was the first Christmas morning we had every been at home without guests. It was different, but I liked it nonetheless. The kids didn’t wake us up too early and we stayed home all day cooking and baking and eating and building and playing with all the things. It was the first time I made from scratch cinnamon buns too. It is a tradition for us to eat them for breakfast on Christmas morning. Well, I started at 7am and we ate the buns around 11am! A long process but totally worth it! I don’t think we can go back to the popped can of cinnamon buns!
I was worried our annual family photos weren’t going to happen. We usually take them in late September but last year it was a total heatwave with temperatures of 90+ degrees that my husband asked if we could wait until October. Well, we had snow and rain almost every weekend in October, and really cold days. I was glad we went for it on this really cold windy October day. The photos turned out so beautiful and I love using them as our Christmas card. I have four years of our family photos hung in frames in our bedroom hallway and I they are most certainly my favorite things.
With January comes another Whole 30 for me. This will be my third January Whole 30 so I feel confident and ready about the next thirty or so days. If you would like to join me you can follow along as I post my meals to Instagram or you can join the Facebook group and interact with a small group who share recipes, ups and downs. I am not eating too much differently than I usually do, but my veggies and fruit intake is way down and I need a hard reset on what I need to be eating to give my body good energy. I like tortilla chips, what can I say! Today I totally have that foggy hangover feeling from just one day of sugar withdrawals. It is crazy how many foods secretly contain added sugar when you aren’t reading each and every label. I didn’t overindulge during Christmas. A cookie or two here and there and a glass of wine, definitely. But I wasn’t binging desserts and big meals. Blah.
My meals are super basic on this plan. I don’t go crazy buying special ingredients and spending hours in the kitchen prepping exotic meals. Whole 30 is about eating protein, veggies, and fruits in a portioned amount without snacking. Also, no booze. So also a dry January! I’m on day three now and feeling good. Yesterday was rough for me. I had the “hangover” day which happens on day 2/3 of Whole 30 when your body is detoxing from sugars. I felt like I was in a fog, fatigued, and by dinner a bit nauseous. I also am dealing with a bit of a head cold and I did an hour of serious exercise. The whole day combined and I was wiped out and asleep by 9pm. Glad to wake up feeling more like myself today! I’ll be updating my Whole 30 January journey on here over the month again as a way to keep a journal for myself.
Happy January to you and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
