Last Days of Whole 30 January
Well, initially I thought this was going to be the longest January ever…but here we are with less than a week to go. I made it with just days to the end of this fourth or fifth round of Whole 30. Whew. I’m feeling the best I ever have after doing on of these 30 day clean eating bits. My energy is great. My mood is super. My skin is amazing. And best of all sleep is easy which I really think is due to me NOT snacking before bedtime. A snack after the kids are in bed is so good but so bad. Dang.
Here are a few things I’ve been eating and really loving this past week:
Last weekend I had totally had it with eggs. I was really missing my warm oatmeal and wanted something to satisfy that craving. I found this recipe on Pinterest for an apple cinnamon hot cereal and made it. It came together really quick, was super delicious and kept me full for awhile. I have eaten a few times since. Once you get the method it comes together quick and if you are doing a Whole 30 or eating a Paleo diet you most likely have the ingredients already.
Last Sunday during the snow and ice storm I wanted comfort food. For me I wanted sauce. Pasta is a major comforting food right? So I had some Adel’s sausage in the freezer and I cooked them up in a bit of avocado oil with chopped peppers and onions. I added some sugar free marina sauce and ate it over zoodles sprinkled some nutritional yeast on top. Nutritional yeast is a good substitute for cheese and its also a great way to up your vitamin intake. Was SO GOOD and hit the spot for the craving of saucy comfort food.
This coconut curry chicken is a super easy crockpot dish. I omitted the beans, but it tasted really good and flavorful. My family ate it over rice. It makes enough for leftovers and really hits the spot on these colder winter nights when you really want to fill your tummy up.
I’m starting to think about reintroduction and what foods I might want to add back into my diet. I think the only things I truly feel like I’m missing out on are my gluten free oats in the morning, a bit of cream in my coffee, and of course the occasional glass of wine. Other than that I think I’m going to really stay on a Whole 365 kind of eating plan. Sugar is in so many things it boggles my mind. And, the tiniest bit of sugar leads down a path that I don’t want to return to. For me, it is one of those things that just isn’t worth it. Sugar makes me feel tired, bloated and wanting more sugar and mind of matter is a hard thing to break. That sugar craving is a beast. Anyway, yep. Goodbye sugar.
I find I drink a ton more water to while on Whole 30. My favorite thing when water is blah, especially in the cold winter month, is flavored seltzer waters. Of course, unsweetened. They really hit the spot and I can easily drink several a day. I’m not a soda drinker, never really was, but I do love a good seltzer. My favorite right now is the strawberry bubly sparkling water. I found it on Amazon when ordering a few of the kids favorite dry good from Prime Pantry. If you haven’t shopped Prime Pantry you must! I was so surprised to find all our favorite Whole Foods 365 brand items for a great price. Much less of a cost for me to order on Amazon then driving thirty minutes to the store, shopping, and coming back home. It is worth looking into if you shop for a large family, or you are short on time, or you don’t have a Whole Foods close by, or you just don’t want to go to the grocery store!
Valentine’s Day and my birthday are coming up next month and don’t think I won’t enjoy a bit of some really delicious 90% chocolate or a glass of my favorite wine.
Five days left and I’ll be enjoying a bit of cream in my coffee. What do you think? Is this something you could stick with? Could you give up sugar for good?
