The Easiest Cold Brew At Home Experience

February 27, 2019

I love iced coffee. I drink it year round. In fact, iced coffee was the way I came to even like coffee. Sure, I will enjoy the occasional cup of hot coffee on a bitterly cold, snowy morning but for the most part I’m an iced coffee lady.

I think it was last summer or the summer before when cold brew coffee became popular. The coffee shops started to promote it and brands starting selling it premade and ready for use. And then followed all the recipes that popped up on how to make cold brew coffee at home.

I tried them all. Bought it from the local coffee shop at a premium, bought the premade, off-the-shelf, refrigerated brands, and even made it at home which is a process.

Cold brew coffee is delicious. It is nice to have that option if you like iced coffee as much as I do. Do you know what makes cold brew coffee different from regularly brewed coffee? Did you know cold brew doesn’t equate cold coffee?

Cold brew coffee is commonly confused with iced coffee, but the name comes from how it’s brewed rather than how it’s served. Cold brew coffee is slowly steeped in cold water using coarsely ground coffee beans. While you can brew a pot of traditional hot coffee in a few minutes, cold brew takes hours — 12 or more — to achieve the signature result. If you make it at home you will want to make a large batch because the process is a bit timely and it will take several attempts to get the coffee strength, and brew you enjoy. Or, if you want instant gratification you can try JAVA HOUSE DUAL-USE LIQUID COFFEE PODS.

I consider myself a coffee enthusiast for sure. During my college days I worked at a locally owned high end coffee bar. It was during this time I learned all about coffee, the way to brew a perfect pour, espresso, bean roasting, how to store coffee, different grinds, and everything else you can imagine having to do with coffee. I still was a tea drinker, iced of course, but left that job with a lot of knowledge about coffee. Some people say coffee is coffee, but all coffee is not equal. The new JAVA HOUSE DUAL-USE LIQUID COFFEE PODS innovation is a game-changer for coffee lovers! I love the ease of use, the flavor is great and if you ask anyone who knows me you know that is saying a lot. JAVA HOUSE COLD BREW has no preservatives, additives, or coffee derivatives. It is just pure cold brew in concentrate form. You add the water, hot or cold. Pour them right into your glass or cocktail or smoothie for a cold coffee version OR pop them into your single serve coffee maker or top with 8oz of hot water for a hot, cold brew version.

When you taste a high-quality cup of cold brew coffee, the difference is apparent. Coffee made using the cold brew method has a smoother, naturally sweeter result that tastes less acidic than traditional hot-brewed coffee. The reason for this is the solubility of the organic acids inherit in coffee are extracted at higher brewing temperatures. The organic acids (like citric, malic, formic, quinic and acetic) are a signature aspect of hot-brewed coffee flavor and aroma yet only dissolve in hot water. The cold brew method doesn’t extract the bright flavors associated with these acids but extracts the rich chocolate and caramel notes that result in the rich and smooth beverage with a difference that you can taste. When I get my coffee out, I use to need sugar and cream or milk in my coffee because, BITTER, but since changing over to cold brew, I just take my favorite non-dairy creamer. The sugar is gone. And, that in itself is a great thing. And now that I can quickly have the perfect brew at home, I’m also saving a lot of money.

Another thing, cold brew is a great option for anyone with a sensitivity to regular coffee. If you find that a traditional brew can turn your stomach, you might want to try a cold brew. The great thing about these JAVA HOUSE DUAL-USE LIQUID COFFEE PODS is that you control the water. They recommend adding 8 ounces of hot or cold liquid, but you could add more or less depending on your prefered taste.

I’d love to hear if you have tried cold brew! What are your thoughts? Are you a hot or iced coffee drinker?

Java House Dual-Use Liquid Coffee Pods are available in four varieties: Ethiopian (light roast), Colombian (medium roast), Sumatran (dark roast) and Decaf (medium roast) and can be purchased online at Walmart.com, Target.com, Amazon.com and JavaHouse.com or purchase in-store at your local Walmart and Target.
