When is the last time you went to Chuck E. Cheese? For me it has been decades. But, I don’t find that shocking since kids usually get to a Chuck E. Cheese by way of their parent. I’ve been a mom for nearly nine years but just haven’t gotten to my local Chuck E. Cheese with my own kids yet! Until now.
We are in the dog days of summer here in Connecticut. The days where we don’t have any plans, and are deep in a heatwave. I’m just wondering how to survive another day with the kids home before the next round of camps begin. When I just don’t want to pack up for another pool or beach day and I want to keep us cool and entertained I headed to my local Chuck E. Cheese for our first ever family trip to the one and only family fun center with the legendary mouse, Chuck E.
Time for a little history about me and Chuck E. Cheese…
Personally, I do not have the fondest memories of visiting this arcade favorite. I once had a massive fear of people dressed up in character clothing.
Let’s recall one particular visit with my mom and grandma. We were eating our pizza and I could see Chuck E., from the corner of my eye, coming around table to table for visits. This was pre-cell phone days so maybe parents could grab their 110 camera from their bag and take a candid photo! Well, I dropped to the floor and hid under the little round table. Shaking with fear. I just couldn’t handle knowing a giant mouse was lurking around watching me eat. I was always convinced that these characters were real!
Pretty sure my mom didn’t bring me back there for a long while. At least until my fear of people in costumes was long gone. Whew. What an ordeal for a kid. I will always sympathize when I see kids crying on Santa’s lap.
Anyway, Chuck E. Cheese isn’t the arcade and resturant you remember as a kid. It has changed in every way. It is even better than before! Get ready for some solid fun for the kids, and lots of options for those of us who want to eat something more than pizza for lunch or dinner.
If you’ve been following me here for awhile you know I’m living a gluten free lifestyle, by choice. And, when I have a pizza craving, my go-to is CAULIPOWER frozen pizzas. The first time I baked it at home, my kids were so curious, they tried it and like it! [You can read my post all about my favorite gluten free pizza CAULIPOWER option here. ]
Chuck E. Cheese is now serving my favorite pizza crust! Now, I have a food option for myself since I don’t eat regular pizza! And, they have a huge salad bar with over THIRTY options. From spinach to pasta salad, you can create a personalized combination. The salad buffet allows for unlimited trips during your visit. Some of the delicious salad bar toppings include: hard boiled eggs, beets, seasonal fruit, cottage cheese, potato salad, gelatin-parfait, and of course bacon to top it off!
